As we move from summer to fall - the dying wildflowers drop seeds that are eventually covered with fall leaves. Then comes the snow of winter which moistens the soil. Finally, the seeds come to life again in the spring, bringing forth the next generation of flowers.
I still have Black-Eyed Susan envy when I walk around the neighborhood. I love the bright yellow flowers of late summer. I have repeatedly failed with this supposedly easy-to-grow plant! Do I try again?
There is ugliness in our country and world today. And there is ugliness in my garden as well. Japanese beetles are flourishing and they are devouring the late bloom on my rose bushes. This is a small ugly compared to nuclear war, or racism, or health issues, or untimely deaths, or other ugly realities. ... I long for the day when all is made right and beauty flourishes.
